UA Wheelchair Basketball Programs Begin Season with Picture Day

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Wheelchair Basketball programs will hold their annual picture day Friday, Sept. 24, at the University Recreation Center. The men’s and women’s teams will be available for photos and interviews from 2-4 p.m.

The Alabama women will be attempting to win their third national championship this year. Though the team lost four seniors following last year’s season, many of the team’s international players have returned. They include Annika Zeyen of Germany, Karolina Lingyte of Lithuania and Cindy Ouellet, Katie Harnock and Elisha Williams of Canada. Kelsey Yost, Kimmie Champion, Lindsey Metz and Emily Seelenfrend all represent the United States. Incoming freshmen include Mackenzie Soldan of Kentucky and Elissa Robinson of Illinois.

The Alabama men are looking for a successful year as all five starting players return from last year’s team, including first-team All American Jared Arambula and Mark Booth. The team has also added freshman Kyle Kilworth of Indiana to its roster this year.

Both the men’s and women’s teams compete in the College Division of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association and will travel extensively this year. Locations for away games include the University of Illinois, University of Texas-Arlington and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Dates for the men’s and women’s home games are Oct. 30, Dec. 4, Jan. 7, Feb. 5 and Feb. 18.

After playing approximately 35 games during the regular season, both teams will travel to Arlington, Texas, for the National Championship Tournament in March. To view the full schedule and more information about the teams, visit the UA Wheelchair Athletics website at www.uads.ua.edu.
