Interpol intrigued by UA prof’s terror study

The world’s largest international police organization has called on a University of Alabama economics professor to study how anti-terrorism dollars should best be spent.
Interpol, the International Criminal Police Organization, contacted Walter Enders after reading a March article in The Economist magazine about a study he conducted which examined the costs and benefits of counterterrorism investments. “We found that intelligence is the most cost-effective way to reduce terrorism,” Enders said. “That’s what they were really interested in.” The professors found that the return on investment to secure airports, embassies and ports is just nine cents for every dollar. The return on money spent on intelligence, however, was 900 percent, meaning that nations are underfunding intelligence efforts and overfunding security, Enders said…

You might have heard of around the world in 80 days, well how about making the trip in just an hour? Earlier tonight some children on the University of Alabama campus learned about different cultures and traditions during the holiday season. At the annual event, children visit different “countries” to sample native food, clothing and traditions. The children are even given passports as they enter the room so they can get stamped at each country they visit.
