UA Center for Community-Based Partnerships to Hold Breakfast and Business Meetings

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama Center for Community-Based Partnerships will hold the first of five Breakfast and Business meetings on Thursday, Aug. 26, in an effort to educate UA employees and potential vendors about conducting business with the University.

The meetings will be held in the Recruiting Room of Bryant-Denny Stadium and will begin with a complimentary breakfast and networking session from 7-8 a.m.

A brief welcome and overview of the program will follow the networking session, and three separate breakout sessions for attendees will run from 8:15-9 a.m. The breakout sessions serve to provide specific information to potential vendors, covering construction bids, goods and services and additional business-related matters.

“We are pleased that, with the help of our on-campus and off-campus partners, we are able to offer these bread-and-butter programs to open up opportunities for companies, especially minority-owned businesses, to learn about doing business with the University,” said Christopher H. Spencer, director of community development for CCBP.

To enhance the information provided at these meetings, a number of individuals will be attending to share their knowledge and experience of conducting business with UA. They include Kevin Stevens, director of the UA Office of Procurement Services, and Tim Leopard, UA assistant vice president for construction. Henry A. Turner Jr., executive director of the Alabama Minority Business Opportunity Center, will also be on hand for the programs.

The four remaining meetings will be held periodically throughout the year on Thursdays. To prevent attendees from missing work, the 7-9 a.m. schedule will be continued. The second meeting will be held on Nov. 16, while the others will be held on Feb. 15, April 19 and June 21 of next year.

In addition to CCBP, other sponsors of the Breakfast and Business meetings include UA’s Office of Financial Affairs, the South Regional Minority Supply and Development Council, and the Alabama Minority Business Opportunity Center in Birmingham.
