Forty-three athletes named to Freshman Honor Roll

A total of 43 University of Alabama student-athletes representing 13 teams were named to the 2010 Southeastern Conference Freshmen Academic Honor Roll, league commissioner Mike Slive announced Monday. The Crimson Tide’s national championship football team was first among all men’s sports with 12 honorees, more than twice as any other football team in the conference. High-profile freshman football players Trent Richardson (undeclared major), D.J. Fluker (health sciences), Nico Johnson (criminal justice), Eddie Lacy (undeclared), A.J. McCarron (public relations) and Chance Warmack (undeclared) were joined by teammates Kenny Bell (health sciences), Chris Bonds (kinesiology), Kendall Kelly (undeclared), William Ming (pre-business), Kevin Norwood (health sciences) and Kellen Williams (education) on the honor roll. UA’s 2010 SEC champion softball team had all five of its freshmen make the list. Gymnastics, rowing and women’s track and field each had four student-athletes recognized, while baseball, soccer and men’s swimming and diving each had three honorees. If Robert Bentley is elected governor, he will be the 10th University of Alabama graduate to serve in the state’s highest office. UA has, by far, the most alumni to be Alabama governor.
