Birmingham News – April 18
…University of Alabama alumna Cynthia Cooper will speak about her book, “Extraordinary Circumstances: The Journey of a Corporate Whistleblower,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday in UA’s Ferguson Student Center Theater. The event, sponsored by the Culverhouse College of Commerce and the UA Center for Ethics and Social Responsibility, is open to the public.

UA considers environmental concerns

The University recently became an institutional member of the U.S. Green Building Council. The Council is a non-profit organization composed of 13,500 organizations committed to advancing sustainable building methods…By joining the Council, UA officials hope to raise the profile of sustainability and demonstrate the principles of green building on campus through educational courses and the incorporation of green design in UA facilities…Leopard said Lloyd Hall is an example of an adaptable building. It has served as the home of the department of chemistry since 1929, and, once the department moves to the new addition to Shelby Hall, which is set to open in August 2009, Lloyd Hall will serve as an interdisciplinary freshman science building…

Professor named to review board

Lou Marino, an associate professor of entrepreneurship and strategic management, has been named a member of the Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference Review Board… considered to be one of the leading conferences in its field. The conference highlights which areas of research are noteworthy and helps define upcoming research for the field. Approximately one out of three papers submitted is accepted, Marino said…

Lindsey Padgett wins $37,800

…Lindsey has experienced the show from the other side of the screen – as a participant and winner. In December, the Vestavia Hills native auditioned for the show at the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover. Another audition was held in January, after which, she received a call telling her she had been chosen to appear on the show…Lindsey won the most money of the three contestants on the episode…

County OKs sports marketing funding
Tuscaloosa News – April 18
The Tuscaloosa County Commission has agreed to give the Tuscaloosa Sports Foundation $100,000 for the next two years to help the new organization lure sporting events to the area. The University of Alabama has promised to allow the foundation to use its facilities, including Bryant-Denny Stadium and Coleman Coliseum, Sittason said, but money is needed to hire an executive director and begin marketing efforts…

Golf tournament to benefit program

The UA College of Engineering will host its eighth annual Capstone Engineering Society Golf Tournament as a fundraiser for the Capstone Engineering Society on April 24 at the Bent Brook Golf Course in Bessemer…All proceeds from the event go to CES, which is a support group for the College of Engineering…
