TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The College of Communication and Information Sciences at The University of Alabama will hold its sixth annual “Making it in the Media” job fair on Friday, Oct.12, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Ferguson Center on the UA campus.
Recruiters attending from across the country will seek permanent employees and interns in print and broadcast news, advertising, promotion, programming, corporate communications, graphics, photography, sales, media production, management training, public relations and new media. College students from across the state and region are invited to attend the fair and are encouraged to bring resumes and work samples if available.
Interested participants can now register from two different Web sites at www.ccom.ua.edu or www.DatelineAlabama.com.
According to Dr. Ed Mullins, chairman of the department of journalism at UA, more than 300 students and 75 recruiters are again expected to attend the event, which has attracted organizations such as “The New York Times,” the Associated Press, major newspapers and television stations in the South, and representatives from magazines, public relations and advertising agencies and departments in several states.
“In addition to Alabama students, we typically have participants joining us from Stillman College, Miles College, Auburn, UAB, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Alcorn State, Alabama State, Troy State, Jacksonville State, Birmingham Southern, Samford, Alabama A&M and a few others,” said Mullins. “We are indeed grateful to the many professional organizations that have again chosen our campus in order to provide outstanding professional jobs and internships to aspiring communications students.”
In a recent survey sponsored by the Knight Foundation for the Association of Education in Journalism and Mass Communication by Dr. Lee Becker of the University of Georgia, UA’s College of Communication and Information Sciences was cited for exemplary diversity practices in recruiting, curriculum and advising.
Student organization co-sponsors include the Advertising Federation, Society of Professional Journalists, Capstone Association of Black Journalists, Public Relations Council of Alabama/Public Relations Student Society of America, Radio and Television News Directors Association student chapter, Alabama Student Society of Communication Arts and Society of News Design.
