UA retail expert Mayer dies at 82
Tuscaloosa News – Feb. 16

University of Alabama emeritus Professor Morris Lehman Mayer, a retail marketing expert known for his generosity, died at 82 Friday. He had suffered from Parkinson’s disease. ‘He was the most unselfish man I ever knew,’ said J. Barry Mason, dean of the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration…The university created the Morris Lehman Mayer Award to honor one faculty member and one member of the graduating class based on Mayer’s ideals of integrity and leadership…

The University of Alabama put up impressive numbers again Thursday as seven of its students were among 60 chosen by USA Today for its first, second and third-team All-USA Academic Team, the most of any school…Rivas, the first-team member from UA, was a co-author on a paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. “It’s rare for an undergrad student to co-author any paper, especially a high-impact paper in a respected journal,” said Guy Caldwell, who oversees a biological research lab that has produced three USA Today first-team students…
