TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — University of Alabama student Randy McMillion recently received a $2,000 scholarship from The American Hotel and Lodging Educational Foundation Hyatt Hotels Fund for Minority Lodging Management Students, and a $1,000 scholarship from the Alabama Travel and Tourism Association for the 2003-2004 academic year.
McMillion is the son of Mr. And Mrs. Willie McMillion of Urbana, Ill. He is a restaurant and hospitality management major in the UA College of Human Environmental Sciences.
McMillion is one of 18 recipients nationwide and the first UA student to receive the foundation scholarship. The selection process for this award is based on academics, hospitality work experience, financial need, extracurricular activities, community service and personal attributes. McMillion was also recently inducted into one of the College’s most prestigious organizations, Eta Sigma Delta Honor Society, for his academic performance.
The College of Human and Environmental Sciences was established in 1917 and has since gained a reputation for its comprehensive approach to higher education. Students seeking degrees within the College are well served through its academic programs, classroom instruction, real-world experience and mentoring sessions with its highly experienced faculty.
Majors offered in the College include: apparel and textile retailing, athletic training, consumer sciences, early childhood development, financial planning and counseling, food and nutrition, family and consumer sciences education, health studies, human development and family studies, and interior design.
