UA professor elected to Alabama-German Partnership

Thomas Fox, chairman of the modern languages and classics department and a professor of German in the University of Alabama’s College of Arts and Sciences, has been elected to the board of directors of the Alabama-Germany Partnership. The partnership, which is approaching its 10th anniversary, promotes cultural, educational and economic ties between Alabama and Germany…

No good reason for Siegelman’s appeal to languish

…Fuller’s refusal to allow Siegelman to remain free on bond pending an appeal is “extraordinarily unusual,” according to Robert Sigler, a retired criminal justice professor at the University of Alabama School of Law. He suggested that Siegelman was rushed off to prison to ensure that he would receive some jail time, even if his conviction were overturned on appeal…As University of Alabama political scientist William Stewart observed in November, every day that Siegelman is in jail when the appellate court might rule that he shouldn’t be, “it’s one more day of suffering.”…
