Tagg Named UA 2002 Homecoming Queen

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Lauren Tagg of Memphis, Tenn., was named homecoming queen for 2002 at The University of Alabama. Her selection was announced at UA’s homecoming pep rally on Friday, Oct. 18.

Tagg is a senior majoring in public relations. She is new member educator of Delta Delta Delta sorority, SGA senate publicity committee chair and was a U.S. Senate intern.

The queen was crowned during halftime of the homecoming football game between Alabama and Ole Miss on Saturday, Oct. 19, in Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The other four members of the 2002 homecoming court were Amber Bradford of Montgomery, Laura DiBlasi of Fayette, Anna Firestone of Gadsden and Holly Michelle Morris of Grand Rapids, Mich.

UA students selected the queen and her court from 20 candidates in a general campus election held Oct. 15-16.

Homecoming week began with the 14th annual Roll Tide Run on Sunday, Oct. 13. More than 65 runners participated in the 10K race, while approximately 500 joined in on the two mile walk-run. Winners of the 10K race were: Men, 1st place — Peter Coleman (34:58 time), 2nd place — Jeff Clark, and 3rd place — Jason Lasuzzo; Women, 1st place — Angela Burton (44:19 time), 2nd place — Gina Miller, and 3rd place — Lane Charnigo.

A bowling tournament held on Wednesday, Oct. 16, was a new addition to homecoming events this year. Winners included: Tied at 1st place — Lambda Chi Alpha and the Residence Hall Association, and 3rd place — Theta Tau.

The Homecoming Choreography Contest took place on Thursday, Oct. 17. Winners included: 1st place, Most Spirit and Best Costume — Delta Zeta, 2nd place — Kappa Kappa Gamma, 3rd place — Pi Beta Phi.

The banner competition winners were announced on Thursday. The winners included: 1st place — Delta Zeta, 2nd place — Pi Beta Phi, and 3rd place — Chi Omega.

Lawn Decoration contest winners for this year included: Sorority, 1st place — Zeta Tau Alpha, 2nd place — Alpha Delta Pi, 3rd place — Phi Mu; Independent: 1st place — Alabama Student Society for Communication Arts, 2nd place — Wesley Foundation, 3rd place — Baptist Campus Ministries.

Quad Game winners included: 1st place — Delta Zeta, 2nd place — (tie) Theta Tau and Honors Program Student Association; Spirit Award — Zeta Tau Alpha.

“Paint the Town Red” contest winners included: 1st place — Honors Program Student Association, 2nd place — Residence Hall Association, 3rd place — Alpha Delta Pi.

Parade winners: 1st place — Phi Mu, 2nd place — Zeta Tau Alpha, 3rd place — Capstone College of Nursing.

Overall Spirit Cup: Delta Zeta.
