3 Students Awarded Prestigious Goldwater Scholarships
The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program has selected three University of Alabama students as Goldwater Scholars for 2026-2027.
Why This Matters: By providing scholarships to college students who intend to pursue research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering, the Goldwater Foundation is helping ensure that the U.S. is producing the number of highly qualified professionals the nation needs in these critical fields.

RISE Center Set for Tennis, Golf Fundraisers
The UA RISE Center is set to host its annual tennis and golf tournament fundraisers and CHIP in for RISE silent auction this month.
Why This Matters: The cost per child to attend RISE five days a week has exceeded $20,000 annually. While RISE receives funding from UA, an endowment and has contracts with local school systems, fundraisers like the golf and tennis tournaments are crucial to the school’s success.

Students, Faculty Honored During Awards Day
Numerous students and faculty were recognized for their achievements during the annual Tapping on the Mound ceremony on Honors Day April 3.
Why This Matters: The Tapping on the Mound ceremony has been a university tradition since the early 1900s. University honor groups Omicron Delta Kappa, Mortar Board, Blue Key National Honor Society and The Anderson Society inducted members. Outstanding students and other special awards were also presented.
