Faculty Salary Market Adjustment Announced

The University of Alabama is investing $2 million in a faculty salary market adjustment, a strategic move to ensure competitive compensation, retain top academic talent and recognize the critical contributions of its educators and researchers.

This initiative, designed to align faculty pay with current national market benchmarks, directly supports the University’s mission to recruit and retain world-class faculty. The investment is a core component of UA’s long-term strategy to enhance its educational offerings and research profile.

“Our faculty are the heart of this institution. Their dedication to teaching, research, and service is what drives our students’ success and elevates the University’s reputation,” said Dr. Jim Dalton, executive vice president and provost. “This market adjustment is a tangible demonstration of our commitment to valuing their work and ensuring we can continue to retain and attract the brightest minds to our campus.”

The adjustment goes into effect Nov. 1 and will be reflected in paychecks at the end of November for faculty members receiving adjustments.

We recognize that not every faculty member will receive a market adjustment at this time. These decisions followed a comprehensive review of market data, position classifications and internal equity. The absence of an adjustment does not reflect the value of their contributions or their importance to the University.

The faculty compensation adjustment mirrors a similar staff compensation and classification initiative successfully implemented earlier this year. One notable component of this salary program was an across-the-board, flat dollar increase for any faculty member earning less than $60,000 annually.

Together, these investments reflect the University’s comprehensive and ongoing commitment to fair, equitable and competitive pay across all employee groups. By taking this proactive step to strengthen its position as an employer of choice in higher education, The University of Alabama reaffirms its commitment to investing in the people central to its success.
