Two looks Aubrey Davis sent down the runway during the Fashion Playbook Spring Show in April earned her a New York Fashion Week experience.
Davis, a junior apparel and textiles major, didn’t have to stray too far from her usual streetwear style. Yet, she still tried some new things for the competition.
“I had to step outside my comfort zone by experimenting with new techniques like airbrushing. But the alignment between my aesthetic and my collection supported me throughout the process,” said Davis.
Davis gets to attend a future New York Fashion Week event as a highlight of winning the Fashion Playbook competition.
“Attending New York Fashion Week has been a dream of mine. I cannot wait to take every single second in,” she said. “This is an incredible experience and opportunity I could not be more thankful to be awarded. And believe me, I have already started planning my outfits!”
While attending NYFW is exciting, it’s also a learning experience for Davis.
“Attending NYFW is an unmatched experience. Being surrounded by leading designers, stylists and industry professionals is a networking dream I plan to take full advantage of. I’m eager to learn what it takes to coordinate a show of this scale and develop my knowledge about fashion shows,” she said. “Most importantly, I plan to use this experience to develop and support me through my senior collection in the fall.”

Dream and Design Big
Davis said she hopes to get her looks on and in front of more people.
“My biggest aspiration after college is to be a professional athlete stylist. I love creating pieces, but I love putting already created pieces together even more. I want to be more of a personal stylist, helping athletes choose outfits for all their events,” Davis said.
“My design development was influenced by how I would style a professional athlete for game day just using Bama colors and emblems. I hope to create so many more game day pieces in the future in my personal life and in my future career. Hopefully, my menswear collection LEGEND was just the start.”
Davis said her coursework was an integral part of preparing her for this competition and the fashion industry.
“The diversity of my coursework at Alabama, including computer-aided design, draping and textile design, provided me with a strong set of skills and tools for my future. I value the knowledge and hands-on experience I have gained from my professors in and out of the classroom,” she said.
“I have learned time management, detail awareness, a deeper understanding of garment construction and how to present my collection professionally.”
And that support doesn’t end with her professors.
“I spend every day of the week with an exceptionally talented, creative and devoted group of peers and friends. I have seen the countless hours we have all spent in the lab, working toward these collections, cheering each other on. I’m just feeling incredibly grateful,” added Davis.
In the coming months, Davis will work with a local retailer on the opportunity to produce and sell her looks to consumers.
