The Presidential Advisory Committee on the Return to Full Operations is finalizing a comprehensive set of plans to prepare a safe, healthy campus environment for fall 2020.
Chaired by UA President Stuart Bell, the committee and multiple working groups are coordinating their efforts on a systemwide basis, utilizing science-based medical tools developed by faculty and researchers on the three campuses and in the UAB Health System. The outcomes-focused work of the entire team is drawing global attention for breakthroughs in how a major research university system can lead the way in achieving aspirational goals.
“Our committee here on campus is outlining robust, nimble strategies to address all the important aspects of preparing our campus to return to full operations,” Bell said. “The health and safety of our students and employees are paramount in our decision-making to return to a fully engaged campus. One of the greatest strengths of our University and our System is the world-class expertise we can tap from among our colleagues to maximize the benefits for our Capstone family.”
Bell and his committee are analyzing more than 60 elements of returning to in-person instruction and regular business operations, including academic quality, campus life, research, athletics, health and safety, HR issues and more.
“In line with the cornerstone objectives set by Chancellor Finis St. John, we will be implementing protocols including testing, symptom tracking and tracing measures, enhanced cleaning, classroom procedures, housing policies, isolation spaces, security and wellness programs, protective equipment and other procedures,” Bell said.
“I am extremely proud of the hundreds of faculty and staff here on our campus who are working around the clock to address all aspects of this global pandemic,” he continued. “Now, more than ever before, The University of Alabama is truly Tied Together by strength, determination and wise decision-making.”
Information about the plan will be shared on the healthinfo.ua.edu website.
