TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Bama Blitz, an inspiring online fundraising event, will begin at noon April 10 and end at 8:31 p.m. April 11, lasting one day, eight hours and 31 minutes in honor of the University’s founding year.
Alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends are invited to come together and support The University of Alabama by using the power of social media and crowdfunding to support a series of unique and impactful passion projects, including:
Hear Here Alabama is a mobile audiology clinic that travels to underserved communities in West Central and South Alabama. This College of Arts and Sciences project provides vital hearing healthcare services including evaluations and counseling for those with hearing loss. Funds for personnel, fuel and maintenance are needed to continue and expand this crucial resource for underserved communities.
The College of Education hopes to expand its K-12 After School Programming and provide more opportunities for students to serve in Tuscaloosa-area programs such as Swim to the Top, Family STEM Night and Bright Minds volunteer reading program.
Last year, UA’s first Bama Blitz raised funds for Capstone College of Nursing to buy a Juno nursing kid simulator. This year, faculty hope to get Juno a new little brother. Realistically representing a 6-year old child, Nursing Kid is designed for skill and scenario-based training of the care and management of a variety of pediatric patients.
“UA’s impact – locally, nationally and even globally – is amplified by the support from our UA family,” said Bob Pierce, UA’s vice president for advancement. “By supporting these passion projects, donors are using their love for UA to make life-changing differences.”
The first Bama Blitz in 2018 raised more than $1.8 million in gifts from 1,810 supporters. Ninety-eight percent of gifts were $500 or less, showing the impact a large number of small gifts can make. The campaign saw a significant boost from volunteers who served as ambassadors encouraging others through their social media channels. Anyone who wishes to help increase the impact of this year’s Bama Blitz can sign up to be an ambassador by visiting bamablitz.ua.edu.
Gifts can be made online at bamablitz.ua.edu beginning at noon CDT on April 10. The website will also provide updates about fundraising totals for each passion project as well as the total amount of money raised for the University.
