The University of Alabama’s new faculty and staff giving campaign, We Are UA, launches today. Organized by the Office of Annual Giving, the giving campaign will provide faculty and staff with an opportunity to financially support UA’s mission of advancing teaching, research and service at the highest level. We Are UA will conclude on April 11 in conjunction with the 2019 Bama Blitz.
During the eight-week campaign, UA faculty and staff will have the opportunity to support the school, department, student scholarship, building campaign or other area of their choice with 100 percent of the gift going directly to the respective fund. All gifts made by faculty and staff during 2018 will also be counted in the campaign.
UA’s Office of Annual Giving hopes the generosity of faculty and staff will provide the student body and community with a positive example of the importance of philanthropic investment in the Capstone. Organizers emphasize that participation in We Are UA is far more important than the size of the gift itself.
Dr. Ron Dulek, the John R. Miller Professor of Management in the Culverhouse College of Business, and Amelia de los Reyes, director of Quality Improvement/Clinical Health Informatics for the Student Health Center and Pharmacy, are serving as the 2019 We Are UA faculty and staff ambassadors.
“I cannot think of a better place to spend one’s professional career,” Dulek said. “You are surrounded by students, faculty and staff who are some of the best, brightest and nicest people in the world. You get to do work, both in teaching and research, that makes a difference.”
Faculty and staff can give through payroll deduction or online by visiting ua.edu/weareua. Gifts can also be made by calling 205-348-5370 or by mailing a pledge card to UA’s Office of Advancement Services.
In addition to the support of UA faculty and staff, Bryant Bank has pledged to match all gifts up to a total of $50,000 to the following unique giving opportunities highlighted on the We Are UA website:
- President’s Support Fund for Faculty and Development Innovation and Research
- Frederick M. Blackmon-Sarah McCorkle Moody Outstanding Professor Award
- Faculty Senate/PSA/OCTSA Joint Service Project Fund
- Tide Together Student Support Fund
- UA General Scholarship Endowment
- Graduate Student Enrichment Fund
- Crimson Tide Scholarship Fund
Once the campaign concludes, all faculty and staff who have made a financial gift of any size to UA will be invited to a donor celebration event. Additionally, faculty and staff who make a financial gift to UA will receive a We Are UA lapel pin.
De los Reyes remarked, “As a whole, the University to me is a giving community. Every time there is something that’s needed to be done at the University, I can tell you there will be people there.”
