These Hands Don’t Hurt Project to be Held at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — These Hands Don’t Hurt, co-sponsored by The University of Alabama Women’s Resource Center and Men Against Violence, will be open to the public on the UA Quad on Monday-Tuesday, April 4-5, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Passersby will be encouraged to dip their hands in paint and add their handprints to a pledge wall. A donation of $3 from each participant will be suggested, and all proceeds will benefit the WRC.

A surprising statistic is that hands are the weapons more often listed in sexual assaults than guns or knives. In recognition of April being Sexual Assault Awareness month, Alpha Kappa Lambda Fraternity is coordinating this special benefit encouraging UA students to pledge that their hands won’t commit violence.

“This is an excellent opportunity for men to acknowledge our role in preventing sexual assault and other forms of violence against women,” said Adam Miller, UA Campus Violence Project coordinator. “We are thrilled that AKL has taken on the challenge of raising awareness of this important issue.”

“We take this commitment very seriously,” said Jerrad Funderburk, AKL philanthropy chair. “We want to be a part of making a positive difference at UA.”
