Welcome back! Transitioning from summer vacation back to campus can be a challenge, so we’ve compiled some information from campus partners to make move-in easier.
What should I bring?
Bring the alarm clock and the extra towels. Skip the air fryer and the fish tank. Here’s a full list of what to bring and what to leave at home.
What’s the deal about residence hall move-in?
If you are planning to live in a residence hall this year, there are a few key things you need to know before you arrive on campus:
You and only you
Only you, the resident, can check into the residence hall. That means parents or guardians will not be permitted to check in on your behalf or in your absence.
Trailers, trucks and vans
No trailers or moving trucks are allowed through the unloading lanes. Moving vans are permitted, as long as they fit in a typical parking space.
Unpacking is on you
On assisted move-in days, volunteers, staff and contractors will help you get carts to and from your room and empty them, but they do not assist with unpacking or arranging furnishings. They also do not provide help for picking up items shipped through Campus Mail.
No tipping, please and thank you!
University staff and third-party contractors assisting on move-in days cannot accept tips per Alabama state law. The best way to show your gratitude is with a smile!

I shipped via Campus Mail. Where is my stuff?
If you shipped your things to campus via Campus Mail, you may be wondering where your stuff is. Here is what you need to know.
Check your email
Campus Mail will be sending emails to all students who shipped items to campus, starting the first week of August. The email will tell you where to pick up your packages.
Show up in person
Campus Mail will not release your packages to anyone else besides you — not parents, not helpers, not friends or roommates. So you’ll need to show up in person, with your ACT card, to your designated pick-up location.
Come whenever they are open
Locations will have extended hours throughout move-in, and you can pick up your packages anytime your location is open, not just on your designated move-in day (except for John England Hall, which has limited space).
There are carts
Too many packages, and not enough hands? Leave collateral like a driver’s license, credit card or phone, and you can check out a cart for 30 minutes to help you get your items back to your room.

Where can I eat?
Moving is hungry work! Fortunately, Bama Dining has you covered with 40+ dining options across campus, and their dining halls are a great place to cool off and refuel during move-in. Whether or not you have a meal plan, you can visit the dining halls for a variety of all-you-care-to-eat options and bring your family or friends with you.
Use the app
You can use mobile ordering at various participating locations to grab food on the go, including late-night snacks. Download the mobile ordering app so you don’t miss out on specials or updates from the Bama Dining team.

How can I get around campus?
Explore campus with bus service
Crimson Ride buses will be in service during move-in. Hop a bus and explore UA’s beautiful campus — they are open to visitors as well as students and staff.
Tired of walking? Take a shuttle
UA Transit provides a dedicated shuttle service between parent parking locations and students’ residential communities during move-in. This is especially helpful for families who may need to make a quick trip off campus to pick up forgotten items or supplies, without having to walk long distances in the August heat or during those inevitable pop-up rain showers.
