Experience That Inspires: Program Launches UA Student Into Real‑World Design

Apparel and design major Aubrey Davis started her senior year excited for the future. But she’s even more inspired to pursue her dream of becoming a streetwear fashion designer after participating in a unique, hands-on learning competition last spring.

Davis, a junior at the time, won the inaugural Fashion Playbook spring fashion showcase held last April. The program challenged 50 student designers to create elevated game day looks.

Davis worked with UA’s Trademark and Licensing Office to produce her winning look to be sold in retail stores. Her design is currently being sold at the Supe Store, Ol’ Colony Golf Course and the Vault in Mobile.

She also got to travel and network during New York Fashion Week last fall through the  CLC Fashion Week Program.

Davis said the entire experience has created opportunities to propel her career forward.

Designing an Inspired Future

Davis, a Wisconsin native, said going to fashion week not only opened doors professionally but creatively as well.

“I met everyone that was there with CLC, so I made some personal connections with students from other schools,” she said. “We attended an Amazon panel, the WME panel. There was an ICNCLST panel with people from all over the industry.”

Davis added, “With Fashion Playbook, you’re putting all the things you’ve learned into your work. I came back from New York halfway through my senior project, and seeing behind the scenes of the shows just inspired me to keep going and stay true to my work and my plan.

“This experience helped me stay true to what I’m doing. It showed that it’s all possible and not just a dream.”
