Be Ready for Anything in 2026

A new year brings new goals. Maybe you’re planning to travel more, try something adventurous, or simply make it to that 8 a.m. class on time. Whatever’s on your list, don’t forget one important resolution: be prepared for emergencies.

Here are a few ways to start the year off safe and ready:

  • Download the UA Safety App. It’s your one-stop shop for emergency communications from the University. The app provides a seven-day weather forecast for Tuscaloosa, emergency contact numbers for local first responders, and UA Alerts.
  • Update your contact info in myBama. The beginning of a new year is always a good time to check your emergency contact information in myBama. Make sure UA has your correct mobile phone number so we can reach you if an emergency happens on campus.
  • Create a personal emergency plan. Emergencies aren’t something you can put on your schedule. Before the next emergency, make sure you’ve taken time to think about what you will do.
  • Take part in a Save a Life Training class. The College of Community Health Sciences offers this free CPR and First Aid class to UA faculty, staff and students at no charge.
  • Learn how to use a fire extinguisher. It’s a skill that could save lives.
  • Know the closest shelter locations on campus for severe weather or other emergencies.
  • Tune in to 92.5 FM UA Info Radio for safety tips all year long.

Start the year strong — because being prepared is always in season.
