Campus Events to Heat Up This August

As the summer sun begins to mellow and the buzz of a new academic year fills the air, UA is gearing up for a spectacular August packed with events, activities and unforgettable experiences.

Whether you’re a new student finding your stride or a returning student looking to start the year off right, there are plenty of ways to kick off the year at Bama with new and old friends.

Weeks of Welcome is all about building connections, discovering campus resources and celebrating what it means to be a part of the Crimson Tide family.

Hi, Tide Day 
Aug. 21, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Student Center Plaza 

Student Government Association leaders and members will be giving away t-shirts and treats to welcome all students back to campus. Stop by and meet your student leaders.  

Get on Board Day 
Aug. 28, 5-9 p.m., The Quad 

Don’t miss this annual campus tradition where it’s the prime opportunity to get connected to one or more of UA’s 600+ student organizations, meet new friends and get free stuff! 

International Coffee Hour  
Aug. 29, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., 2100 Student Center  

Join friends from around the world to enjoy coffee, tea, snacks and conversation. 

Athletics 

Women’s soccer’s home opener is Aug. 17 against Chattanooga and they host Michigan at home on Aug. 21. Volleyball hosts a tournament Aug. 29 and 30. See the full Crimson Tide schedule for August. 

Around Town 

Try It: 1 Day Wheel Throwing at Kentuck 
Aug. 27, 6-7:30 p.m., Kentuck Art Center, Northport 

Get a taste of throwing pottery on the wheel at this one-day workshop. Tuition is $65 and all materials are included. Check out all the art workshops available through Kentuck.  

Pitbull in Concert 
Aug. 28, 7:30 p.m., Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater 

See one of the most iconic rappers of this era right here in Tuscaloosa for one of the last shows of the amphitheater’s summer season.  

Historic Tuscaloosa Summer Lecture Series 
Aug. 28, 5-6:30 p.m., 38 Lloyd Hall 

Dr. Cameron H. Lacquement will be discussing the history of the Walker Cemetery in this free lecture open to all.
