Acclaimed CrossingPoints Earns Full National Accreditation
The Inclusive Higher Education Accreditation Council awarded full accreditation to the CrossingPoints Tier 3 Program at The University of Alabama, making it the first accredited program of its kind in the Southeastern Conference and the state of Alabama.
Why This Matters: CrossingPoints Tier 3 becomes the fourth inclusive postsecondary program in the United States to be accredited by the new council. As an IPSE, CrossingPoints program strives to ensure that students with intellectual disabilities have the same educational and campus experiences as their peers.

Translational Scientist Offered Fulbright Scholar Award
Dr. M.N.V. Ravi Kumar, Distinguished University Research Professor with the UA College of Community Health Sciences’ department of translational science and medicine, was selected for the Fulbright-Nehru Scholar Award that will allow him to conduct vital research at the National Institute of Nutrition, or NIN, in Hyderabad, India.
Why This Matters: Kumar, a world-renowned leader in the field of translational science for medicine design, plans to work with Dr. G. Bhanuprakash Reddy’s laboratory to develop advanced formulations of urolithin A, a natural compound known for its typically low absorption in the body.
Creating Effective Wildfire Evacuation Models
In a study funded by the National Science Foundation, researchers at UA developed a new model designed to implement more effective wildfire evacuation plans.
Why This Matters: At the halfway point, the National Interagency Fire Center reported active fires in 10 states, marking the highest number of individual fires in a decade. Some of the more vulnerable homes lie at the intersection of forest and town — the wildland-urban interface.
