TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Some of the top rising high school seniors in the state will gain hands-on experience in a model state government as The University of Alabama will host American Legion Alabama Boys State and American Legion Auxiliary Alabama Girls State.
Alabama Boys State will take place May 25-31 and Alabama Girls State will follow June 1-6. This year marks the first time UA has hosted Boys and Girls State since 2021.
Speakers will include former Boys and Girls State participants who’ve developed successful careers in government and the private sector.
Alabama Boys State is a leadership and government training initiative that provides knowledge of the political process through practical participation. Students from around the state are selected based on their demonstration of leadership, dedication and strong morals in education and community engagement.
Delegates will also have the opportunity to join groups that focus on their individual areas of interest, including law enforcement, aerospace, local government, health care and business, among others.
Following the similar principles, Alabama Girls State focuses on leadership, grounded in patriotism and knowledge of the responsibilities of citizenship. Participants learn about our form of government and how it works specifically on the local and state levels.
Delegates will have the opportunity to participate in legislative sessions, party caucuses as they run for mock offices, and hear from outstanding speakers.
In addition to activities on the UA campus, Boys State delegates will travel to Montgomery to tour the Alabama State Capitol and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice. Girls State participants will also visit Montgomery and have a joint session of the legislature, tour the Capitol, and have lunch at the Governor’s Mansion.
