TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama RISE Center will host its annual RISE Tournament of Champions golf fundraiser April 24-25 and CHIP in for RISE April 29.
The RISE Tournament of Champions, taking place at the NorthRiver Yacht Club in Tuscaloosa, is a four-person drop out scramble, handicaps required, with morning or afternoon tee times both days. Registration for the golf tournament starts at $2,800 for a four-person team.
“RISE has been providing services to children for over 50 years in the Tuscaloosa community and as we look to the future, we are creatively looking for ways to meet the needs of our children and families,” said Andi Gillen, director of the UA RISE Center. “In the upcoming year we hope to expand our therapeutic services to include feeding therapy and music and movement therapy for children. Additional funds raised at our fundraisers will allow us to create new programs and reach more children and families that are in need of support and therapy in our community.”
The cost per child to attend RISE five days a week exceeds $20,000. While RISE receives funding from UA, an endowment and has contracts with local school systems, fundraisers like the golf tournament are crucial to the school’s success. There are eight RISE programs across the country and RISE Tuscaloosa is the only program where all children needing therapy services continue to attend RISE Center at no cost. Fundraising support has been instrumental in the program’s longevity and its ability to provide much needed early intervention services to children of varying abilities in the Tuscaloosa area.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams with the best gross and net scores. These prizes include televisions, paddle boards, range finders, travel golf bags, Top Golf experiences and Alabama-related memorabilia signed by head football coach Kalen DeBoer, head men’s basketball coach Nate Oats and former head football coach Nick Saban. Golfers will also receive a gift upon check-in and lunch will be provided.
DeBoer and other UA celebrities will be on hand for the event.
The CHIP in for RISE silent auction will take place April 29 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the University Club. The silent auction will feature UA athletic memorabilia, golf packages, jewelry and original works of art. Tickets will be available at the door.
