One hundred and fifty high school sophomores from around the state who demonstrated an interest in creating and developing leadership skills were recently selected to participate in UA’s Capstone Leadership Academy that was held Feb. 27-28.
Participants embarked on a cohort-style journey where they built a close-knit leadership community with fellow attendees. Each group created a team motto and goals as they explored the three leadership pillars of values, vision and voice.
Guest speakers included Greg Byrne, UA director of athletics; Kaitlan Collins, news anchor with CNN and UA alumnae; and former Capstone Men and Women.
Capstone Leadership Academy was originally founded by former members and alumni of UA’s Capstone Men and Women to honor the legacy and leadership shepherded by Jean Townsend O’Conner Snyder, founder and former sponsor of the Crimson Girls that evolved to Capstone Men and Women. O’Conner Snyder’s legacy on campus spans a multitude of leadership roles, service to a variety of organizations and committees, and leadership in community and state business and community engagement facets.
