Don’t Get Duped! Avoid Ticket Scams

As the Crimson Tide football team prepares to enter conference play, UA students looking to buy tickets are encouraged to be vigilant against scams.

How to Avoid Getting Scammed

  • Purchase tickets only from trusted sources. Ensure you know the seller personally or can verify their credibility.
  • Avoid buying tickets from GroupMe or social media sites like Snapchat: Scammers can easily pose as UA students on these platforms.
  • Use reputable ticket resellers: UA Athletics recommends using SeatGeek for ticket purchases.
  • Avoid untraceable payment methods: Do not use Venmo, CashApp, or other untraceable sources. Once the money is sent, you can’t get it back.
  • Offer to exchange tickets at UAPD: Even for online transactions, meeting at the police department can help ensure the transaction is legitimate.

If You Fall for a Ticket Scam

  • Contact UAPD: If you lose money to a ticket scam, call UAPD at 205-348-5454.
  • Report fraudulent postings: Follow the platform’s guidelines to report impersonators on GroupMe or other social media sites.
