Students Can Apply for UA System’s Capitol Scholars

Students planning to pursue a career in federal government or related fields can apply for an exciting opportunity to intern in Washington, DC, next summer.

The University of Alabama System Office of External Affairs is seeking its next class of Capitol Scholars to serve in summer 2025.

The Capitol Scholars Program is an immersive summer internship program designed to provide life-changing, merit-based opportunities to UA System students who have earned at least 60 credit hours or are enrolled in a graduate or professional degree program.

“The chance to spend time in our nation’s capital is remarkable on its own, but doing so alongside individuals who share a deep love for our great state of Alabama elevated the experience even further,” said UA student Preston McGee, a member of last year’s inaugural class.

“The Capitol Scholars program not only facilitated this, but also provided invaluable exposure to the various functions that impact the governance and operation of our beloved country.”

Students will be evaluated on merit, including academic excellence, leadership and commitment to community service. Application forms are open on the Capitol Scholars website.

Interested students are invited to attend a virtual information meeting Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. (Zoom registration available). Applications are due by Sept. 23 at noon and students should be prepared to submit a resumé and two recommendations — one from a faculty member and one from an individual of their choosing.
