Recognized Civic, Business Leader Named AVP for Alumni Affairs

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Jimmy E. Warren has been named associate vice president for Alumni Affairs at The University of Alabama and executive director of the National Alumni Association

A Tuscaloosa native, Warren graduated from the University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Science and went on to earn a master’s degree in biblical studies from Abilene Christian University in 1978. 

Warren brings decades of professional experience and extensive University service to his role at the association, set to begin Jan. 16, 2024. He currently serves as president of TotalCom Marketing Communications, an award-winning marketing and advertising firm with offices in Tuscaloosa and Huntsville. After buying the company in 1983, Warren spearheaded four decades of growth at TotalCom, which now serves local and regional clients throughout the Southeast. 

“The University Office of Alumni Affairs and the UA National Alumni Association will greatly benefit from Jimmy’s leadership and areas of expertise, including business strategy and client relationships,” said Bob Pierce, UA’s vice president for advancement.

In addition to his professional experience, Warren brings a long tenure of University support and service with him to the role.

“His commitment to fostering strong connections between alumni and the University has been evident in his service to the National Alumni Association and elsewhere across campus. I’m excited to have him joining us and look forward to all he will accomplish in this position,” Pierce said.

Warren’s engagement with the University includes volunteering with alumni chapters and serving as president of the National Alumni Association’s executive committee for the 2014-15 year. He has also endowed two scholarships with the association. 

Currently, he is a member of the board of directors for the 1831 Foundation and serves on the board of visitors for the College of Communication and Information Sciences. Warren is also a member of Dr. Stuart Bell’s President’s Cabinet. Warren was selected as The University of Alabama National Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumnus in 2022.

In addition to his contributions to the University, Warren has taken on a range of leadership roles in the local community, serving the Tuscaloosa Public Library, the Tuscaloosa Tourism and Sports Commission and the United Way of West Alabama.

“I am honored to be selected to serve the University and the National Alumni Association,” Warren said. “This opportunity will allow me to share the excellence of the Alabama experience with people across the country. I look forward to working collaboratively with the alumni community and contributing to the continued success and growth of the association.”

Keith Miller, president of the National Alumni Association, believes Warren’s unique blend of skills and experience will play a crucial role in elevating the National Alumni Association to new heights.

“His proven track record in business and dedication to serving others aligns perfectly with the goals of the National Alumni Association,” Miller said. “We will all benefit from Jimmy’s leadership as we begin a new chapter at the association.”
