Winter Break: What’s Open, What’s Closed

UA’s winter break is Dec. 22 through Jan. 3, 2023. Most offices and services follow the UA holiday schedule. Check individual websites for the latest information. 

Hours and Operations During Winter Break

Bama Dining 

After commencement and until Dec. 14 Bama Dining operations will be limited to Subway (10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.) and Starbucks (8 a.m.-5 p.m.) in the Student Center. Beyond that point, all locations will be closed, except Starbucks on Bryant Drive, which will be closed Dec. 11-18 for a minor renovation and will reopen Dec. 19. It will also be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. 

Campus Mail Service 

Departments: Mail routes will run Dec. 21. Provide all outgoing mail to Campus Mail by 1 p.m. to have it mailed out before the holiday break. CAPS boxes will be collected at 1 p.m. that day. Authorized representatives may pick up departmental mail Dec. 28 or Dec. 30 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Printing and Mailing Facility. The list of authorized employees must be provided by 5 p.m. Dec. 20 to DepartmentalMail@ua.edu 

Students: All student packages received by Dec. 14 that are not collected will be returned to sender on Dec. 20, unless forwarding information is received by 5 p.m. Dec. 19. Student packages received from Dec. 14 through Jan. 4, 2023, will not be returned to sender until Jan. 20. All correspondence regarding student mail and packages during the winter break will be sent to the student’s crimson.ua.edu email addresses. Text messages will be disabled during this time. Students may choose to have uncollected packages or mail returned to sender at an earlier date or forwarded to another address by following instructions online. 

Fingerprinting and Passports: The Fingerprinting and Passport office will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 21, but no passport applications will be taken after 11 a.m. to allow adequate time for processing and mailing. 

Campus Parking 

During winter break, all safety rules and regulations apply as normal. Students should not park in faculty/staff or reserve surface lots. Commuter permit holders may park in any commuter zone and residential permit holders may park in any non-gated residential zone. Residential students wishing to leave their vehicles on campus may park in any parking Deck corresponding to their parking zone. 

Commuter students or students without a parking permit wishing to leave their vehicles on campus during the winter break can park their vehicles in the Campus Drive Parking Deck. Email uapark@ua.edu for additional information. 

Crimson Ride

Crimson Ride will provide reduced service from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Dec. 12 through Jan. 6, 2023, during times the University is open. There is no weekend service, and campus coverage will be with the circulator route. There is no campus service from Dec. 22 to Jan. 3, 2023. Limited campus service will resume Jan. 4. The service Jan. 8 will include the shopping shuttle. Full campus service resumes Jan. 9. Call 205-348-7433 for more information.

Student Health Center and Pharmacy 

The Student Health Center and Pharmacy will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday for the remainder of the semester. The SHCP will not hold evening or weekend clinic hours. The SHCP will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 21 for the winter break and reopen Jan. 4, 2023, at 8 a.m. 

Students are encouraged to call the Student Health Center and Pharmacy to ensure they have medication refills set up with their home pharmacy while UA observes winter break. Students should call 205-348-6276 and speak with the pharmacy to forward their prescriptions to their home pharmacy. Supe Store

All Supe Store locations will be closed during the winter break. Operations will continue online. The Corner location will be open Jan. 3, 2023, from noon to 6 p.m. Normal operations will resume Jan. 4, 2023, at The University of Alabama Student Center and Corner locations. The Town Center Store will be closed until Jan. 16.

University Medical Center  

University Medical Center in Tuscaloosa will be closed Dec. 23, Dec. 26, Dec. 30 and Jan. 2, 2023. UMC will be open all other weekdays during the break, although with limited hours.
