TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at The University of Alabama will host OLLI Day, featuring author Sean Dietrich, better known as Sean of the South, Monday, Aug. 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bryant Conference Center on the UA campus.
“We are excited to welcome Sean to OLLI Day,” said Ashley Chambers, director of OLLI at UA. “His fans enjoy his published work in magazine and newspaper columns, many books, online and social media blogs, and his in-person speaking events. Sean has an insightful and honest approach to humanity.”
The event, which includes lunch, a one-year membership to OLLI and a chance to meet Dietrich, is $50 for the public and free for 2022-2023 OLLI members.
OLLI is a national organization offering a variety of non-credit courses, socials and field trips to adults over 50. The member-led program, which has no homework or tests, is focused on giving members educational, travel, volunteer and leadership opportunities.
In Alabama, OLLI has chapters in Tuscaloosa, Gadsden and Hoover that organize more than 300 classes, trips, social gatherings, creative activities and intellectual discussions.
“Besides broadening their knowledge throughout the year participating in OLLI programs, research has shown that adults who stay active intellectually are also healthier and more socially balanced,” Chambers said.
