Ballroom Dance Team Wins Big at Competition

UA’s #ChampionshipSchool status continues to roll on as the University’s Collegiate Ballroom Competition Team won numerous awards during the Gamecock Invitational at the University of South Carolina Oct. 23.

Every partnership for UA’s team placed in an event and secured higher placements than teams from five competing universities.

“The success we experienced has really motivated the team to be more competitive,” said Louis LeBoeuf, team president and competitor. “We lost all but a handful of members during the pandemic due to graduation and we’re mostly made of new members, but everyone crushed at the competition!”

The team’s newcomers won 70% of the first place awards across 13 events; placed first or second in seven out of nine events at the Bronze Level; and Silver Level members in their first competition finished second or third in seven out of eight events.

Some of the impressive results from the Gamecock Invitational include:

Newcomer Level – 19 placements overall

  • Nine first place ribbons across American and international styles
  • Three second place ribbons across American and international styles
  • Three third place ribbons across American and international styles

Bronze Level – 15 placements overall

  • Four first place ribbons across American and international styles
  • Five second place ribbons across American and international styles

Silver Level – 12 placements overall

  • Five second place ribbons across American and international styles
  • Four third place ribbons across American and international Styles
  • Two fourth place ribbons across American and international Styles
  • One fifth place ribbon in international tango

The Collegiate Ballroom Competition Team has been a student organization for eight years. According to LeBoeuf, the team competes three or four times each semester with some members competing more often.

Any student can join UA’s Collegiate Ballroom Competition Team. Requirements include a $15 due each semester and attendance at a minimum of one practice per week. Participants aren’t required to compete.
