The Crimson Promenade in the center of campus holds a special tribute to the six UA students who died on April 27, 2011, as a result of the devastating tornado.

Denny Chimes will ring 53 times on April 27 in honor of those who died from the powerful tornado that swept through Tuscaloosa County 10 years ago.

A remembrance ceremony begins just after 5 p.m. at the chimes on The Quad at The University of Alabama with remarks by Dr. Stacy Jones, dean of students. The chimes will begin ringing at 5:13 p.m., the time the tornado struck the area on April 27, 2011.

Along with the ceremony, the UA Center for Service and Leadership is selling memorial T-shirts online. All proceeds from the sale of the shirts, which read “Tuscaloosa Strong,” will benefit the Acts of Kindness Student Relief Fund.

There are also two opportunities to volunteer in Tuscaloosa for students and employees.

The Center for Service and Leadership arranged for the opportunities, but volunteers will need to provide their own transportation.
