3rd Annual Bama Blitz Online Fundraising Event Set for March 25, 26

Update: Out of respect for our alumni and friends whose lives are being impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak, The University of Alabama’s Office of Development has elected to postpone Bama Blitz, previously scheduled for March 25 and 26. This also applies to the We Are UA faculty and staff giving campaign. We are actively working to reschedule and will announce the new dates once they have been determined.

Alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends of UA can use the power of social media and crowdfunding to build support for a series of unique and impactful passion projects. Some of the projects include:

— Reading Allies, an innovative reading initiative to improve literacy among elementary school students across Alabama, is Honors College’s passion project for the upcoming Bama Blitz crowdfunding campaign. Reading Allies aligns with the goals of the recently-passed Alabama Literacy Act, which requires all students to read at grade level by the end of their third grade year.

— UA’s Million Dollar Band has been selected to perform in the 2020 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The costs associated with this trip are high, and funds are needed to alleviate costs for the band’s 400 members to travel to, and participate in, this legendary event.

— Capstone Agency, a student-run integrated communications agency within the College of Communication and Information Sciences, gives students the opportunity to work with real-world clients. Funds are needed to support their annual CreateAThon, a 24-hour event where they provide pro-bono marketing and communication services to nonprofit organizations.

More than $4.3 million has been raised since the inaugural Bama Blitz in 2017, thanks in large part to the total number of gifts – 5,462, most of which were less than $500.

Previous campaigns saw significant boosts from volunteers who served as ambassadors encouraging others. Anyone who wishes to help increase the impact of Bama Blitz is encouraged to sign up to be an ambassador by visiting bamablitz.ua.edu before Wednesday, March 25.

Gifts can be made at bamablitz.ua.edu beginning at noon March 25. The website will provide updates about fundraising totals for each passion project as well as the total amount of money raised for the University.
