A Look at Spring Performances on Campus

UA’s College of Arts and Sciences is preparing for a busy spring season of performances by the School of Music and department of theatre and dance.

UA theatre students perform in Resonance.
The department of theatre and dance will open its season Feb. 10.

The School of Music will get its spring season underway Jan. 28 with “A Night of Billy Joel Music,” featuring UA faculty and student groups. The free event will take place in Moody Music Building’s Concert Hall.

“The performances of all types and genres presented on a regular basis by the School of Music represent the culmination of many hours of hard work, preparation, scholarly study and intensive practice on the part of our faculty and students,” said Charles Snead, director of the School of Music. “A performance can be seen as the realization of a musical dream, once conceived in the abstract, but now brought to reality. Also, our performances provide important and necessary experiences for our students relative to their musical and professional development on their roads toward lifelong careers and related opportunities.”

The department of theatre and dance will open its season Feb. 10 with “Mr. Universe” making its debut at the Allen Bales Theatre.

“Our students and faculty dedicate themselves to long hours of creative research and collaborative practice to produce quality theatre and dance performances for our community,” said Sarah Barry, department chair. “Supporting live arts events can spark your imagination, open your heart and mind to new thoughts or feelings, or even be an intentional escape. Performers feed off the energy of an audience, so we encourage our audiences to come as willing participants in the experience of the show.”
