Students put on a show for Lockheed Martin Corp. executives and representatives last week as the aerospace and defense company brought its Challenge Box to the Ferguson Student Center.
At the end of the three-day Challenge Box event, 41 University of Alabama students received a full-time job offer while another 44 were offered internship positions.
“We’ve received great feedback from Lockheed Martin following the event,” said Melinda J. King, UA assistant vice president for Student Life and executive director of the Career Center. “One of the executives sent us a note saying that many of the Lockheed Martin managers said that this was the best event of this nature they had experienced, both from student engagement and participation as well as the UA staff.”
UA students had the opportunity to answer one of four challenging questions that would boost the student to the top of Lockheed Martin’s recruiting list if solved. In addition, students could choose to solve a high value equation that would result in an on-the-spot job offer. Colin Adreon, Jacob Grimaldi and Chris Simpson took on the high value equation and were able to solve it.
According to Lockheed Martin, only seven people had solved the high value equation over the span of eight events prior to the UA visit. UA students now comprise 30% of those who have been able to solve the high value equation.
“UA students took full advantage of this unique opportunity to connect with so many decision makers at Lockheed Martin in a relatively short period of time,” said King. “The students leveraged that opportunity and we are extremely proud of how they performed in both the Box Challenge as well as during interviews with the Lockheed Martin team.”
