Students with a passion for engineering, math, physics, computer science and other STEM-related fields will soon have the chance to display their problem-solving skills and receive an instant job offer from one of the nation’s top aerospace and defense companies.
Lockheed Martin Corp. will bring its 14-foot-tall Challenge Box to the Ferguson Student Center Great Hall Sept. 9-11.
“The Challenge Box is a unique way for students to showcase their talent, knowledge and determination by solving any one of four challenging science, engineering, math or physics problems each day,” said Ashley Olive, manager of employer development at UA’s Career Center. “When a student solves a problem, they unlock the Challenge Box, enter it through a hidden door and then experience an immersive voyage through the cosmos. A hologram appears at the end of their trip to congratulate them on unlocking the universe and for having what it takes to work for Lockheed Martin.”
Students who are able to unlock the Challenge Box will be awarded a Voyager Golden Record Set and placed at the top of Lockheed Martin’s recruiting list. In addition, there will be one high value problem that unlocks a same-day job offer for the student who solves it.
Challenge Box hours are Sept. 9-11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In addition to the challenge, Lockheed Martin will host a career fair Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Ferguson Student Center Ballroom. Registered students will have the opportunity to network and share their résumés with Lockheed Martin engineers, business and operations professionals, and executives. The company will also bring virtual reality and interactive displays, provide giveaways and raffle for a new laptop.
