Dr. Norma Cuellar, a professor in the Capstone College of Nursing, is the recipient of a Fulbright Specialist Award to the Universidad Norbert Wiener and the Universidad Maria Auxiliadora in Peru. A program of the U.S. Department of State, the Fulbright Specialist Program offers a nationally peer-reviewed competition for U.S. academics and professionals to receive support to engage in project-based exchanges at host institutions around the globe.
During the fall semester, Cuellar will participate in workshops and seminars on the development and implementation of research as well as disseminate scholarship (publications and international presentations). She also will work with faculty on submitting research grants, implementing research plans, publishing research and developing international ties.
Cuellar is president of the U.S. National Association of Hispanic Nurses. She seeks to develop collaborations between U.S. nurse researchers and faculty from the two universities. These collaborations will build bridges for future cooperation between the United States and Peru to the benefit of researchers, teachers, students and nurses in both countries.
Faculty who are interested in learning more about applying for a Fulbright Award should contact Dr. Teresa Wise, associate provost for international education and global outreach, at the Capstone International Center at cic@ua.edu or visit international.ua.edu.
