Face to Face Tour at UA to Tell of Child Soldiers in Africa

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama student organization Apwonjo will present the Invisible Children Face to Face Tour on campus Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. in 205 Gorgas Library.

The mission of the tour is to teach people about the war in Uganda, how it has spread to three other central African countries, and how it involves the Lord’s Resistance Army’s use of child soldiers. Students will learn about the history of the conflict, the work of Invisible Children and ways they can get involved in bringing about peace.

At the event, two Ugandans, Aol Irene and Akello Monica, will share their personal stories of how LRA violence has affected their lives. The Invisible Children “roadies” will also screen a short film called “The Rescue.”

Apwonjo is a student organization that actively engages the UA campus and its surrounding community in education and awareness regarding issues of social justice in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Face to Face Tour is sponsored by the nonprofit organization, Invisible Children.
