The founder of Sister Schubert’s Homemade Rolls and the frontman of the country music band Alabama are among the 2018 inductees to the University of Alabama Culverhouse College of Business’ Alabama Business Hall of Fame.

Terror attacks by Muslims receive 357% more press attention, study finds

Terrorist attacks committed by Muslim extremists receive 357% more US press coverage than those committed by non-Muslims, according to new research from the University of Alabama. The researchers controlled for factors like target type, number of fatalities, and whether or not the perpetrators were arrested before reaching their final statistic.

The Medical Center Auxiliary honors teen volunteers at awards ceremony

The Medical Center Auxiliary honored more than 100 teen volunteers during an appreciation dinner Tuesday night at The Venue at Friendship Springs … Also in attendance at the event were college interns Alaina Lee and Simin Savani who are both former teen volunteers and returned to NCMC to intern throughout the summer. Lee is a student at The University of Alabama and Savani attends the University of Georgia.

UA professor finds link between lack of Labor/Delivery units and infant mortality rate in rural Alabama

Dr. Powell also concluded that when these services were available to women in Pickens County, there was a significant decline in the infant mortality rate. She noted that UA’s College of Community Health Sciences, which operates a residency to train doctors in family medicine, also offers an obstetrics fellowship for additional training for doctors wanting to practice in rural areas.

“Like mother like daughter” takes on another life this weekend, as a girl named Sophie learns about her mother’s journey to maternity, being now pregnant herself, and visiting the same Greek island where her mom learned love, adventure and a passion for music during a 1979 trip. Now it’s Sophie’s turn to take risks and figure out life for herself, in “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.” … “I love old music; this is amazing. I promise I didn’t cheat: ‘Take A Chance on Me,’ ‘Dancing Queen,’ ‘Fernando,’ ‘Mamma Mia’ and ‘SOS,’ ” said Jackson Fuentes, a sophomore studying political science and public relations at the University of Alabama.

Fighting With Your Own Reflection: Can Animals Perceive The Differences Between Natural And Fake Opponents?

hile standing in front of a mirror, it is easy for humans to recognize that the image in the mirror is nothing but a reflection. However, for animals lacking self-recognition, it is difficult to tell whether the one behind the mirror is real or fake … These findings are described in the article entitled, Nonreversing mirrors elicit behaviour that more accurately predicts performance against live opponents, recently published in the journal Animal Behaviour. This work was conducted by Cheng-Yu Li, Caitlin Curtis, and Ryan Earley from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa.
