TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama’s Hypatia chapter of Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society has received the Ruth Weimer Mount Award from the national association.
The award is presented annually to Mortar Board’s most outstanding collegiate chapter.

Led by past president Jenny Lamberth of Alexander City, the 70-member UA chapter created a video titled “Legacy of Lessons Learned” to share with new students. The chapter also partnered with the English Language Institute to host “Coffee and Conversation” for international students.
The chapter’s “Taste of Christmas around the World” event at the Capstone Village retirement home provided for intergenerational companionship and learning. In addition, the chapter continued to sponsor graduation flower sales that raised $12,000 for UA Away and a “Reading is Leading” program benefitting local schoolchildren.

Faulkner Hereford, the current UA Mortar Board president from Birmingham, earlier accepted the award in Indianapolis, along with chapter advisers Susan Caples, Glenda Guyton, Martha Griffith and Mortar Board section coordinator Nathan Cordle.
Mortar Board is the premier national honor society recognizing college seniors for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. Since its founding in 1918, more than a quarter of a million members have been initiated at 231 chartered chapters across the country.
