TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — University of Alabama fraternity and sorority members garnered $101,000 for area nonprofits and provided more than 1,200 hours of community service in fundraisers and volunteer opportunities connected to UA’s Greek Week and the all-Greek service project.
UA’s Greek community partnered with Habitat for Humanity for the annual all-Greek service project.
From April 13 to 18, more than 300 fraternity men and sorority women visited sites in Tuscaloosa, including Juanita Drive and Horseshoe Bend Road, to volunteer for four hours each to help build houses for families in Tuscaloosa.
Together, the UA Greek community contributed more than 1,200 hours of service.
“It was a great privilege to work to make a difference in the Tuscaloosa community, and I have been extremely proud to see our Greek community working so well together,” said Ally Pace, vice president of administration for the Alabama Panhellenic Association said. “Habitat for Humanity is a project that UA Greeks have enjoyed partnering with, and it is our hope to continue this worthwhile effort.”
In addition to volunteering time, the UA Greek community raised $101,000 from fraternity and sorority donations during Greek Week, which ran from March 2 to 7. The funds were given to 32 nonprofit organizations in and around the Tuscaloosa community. Greek Week consisted of competitions between fraternities and sororities, including bowling, basketball, dodgeball and a dance competition.
