TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Dr. Harry Brighouse, professor of philosophy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, will deliver the annual James P. Curtis Lecture at 6 p.m. Tuesday on The University of Alabama campus.
Brighouse, an affiliate professor of studies and the director of the UW-Madison Center for Ethics and Education, has researched education in both England and the United States.
His lecture, to be held in room 118 of Graves Hall, is titled, “What Should Schools Do and How Should They Do It?”
Brighouse is the author of “On Education (Thinking in Action),” “School Choice and Social Justice,” and “A Level Playing Field: The Reform of Private Schools.” He is the co-author of “Family Values: The Ethics of Parent-Child Relationships.”
The James P. Curtis Distinguished Lecture Series was created by the board of directors of the Capstone Education Society to bring a renowned educator or public figure to the campus each year to lecture about contemporary education issues. It was named in honor of Dr. James P. Curtis, a faculty member in the College of Education for 23 years.
During his service to the University as professor of administration and educational leadership and assistant dean of the Bureau of Educational Services and Research, and through his guidance, Curtis influenced the lives and careers of countless students who have become prominent educators throughout Alabama, the United States and the world.
