TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama’s College of Communication and Information Sciences is hosting its third and final speaker to discuss the strategic planning process for the future of the College.
Dr. Robert Picard, a professor and director of research at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford, is visiting campus March 2-4. His public presentation is today at 2:30 p.m. in 118 Graves Hall.
Picard was a fellow at the Shorenstein Center at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and the Reuters Institute in the department of politics and international relations at Oxford University. He is also the founding editor of The Journal of Media Economics, and has many more honorable titles.
Picard has been a consultant to ministries and government agencies, media and communications companies and media labor organizations in North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America.
“Having an industry leader such as Robert Picard speak to our faculty and students will be extremely beneficial to the College as we move forward with strategic planning,” said Dr. Mark Nelson, dean. “His expertise, along with that offered by our previous guest speakers, Jerry Michalsky and Clifford Lynch, will provide a framework for discussions about the future that will be continuing in the College in coming months.”
Picard has received Master of Arts degrees from California State University and the University of Oxford and a doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is also listed in “Who’s Who in the World,” “Who’s Who in America,” “Who’s Who in Education,” “International Authors and Writers Who’s Who,” and “Contemporary Authors.”
Picard’s presentation is free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis, as space is limited. It will close out the speaker series.
