ANNOUNCEMENTS

WVUA-TV will broadcast the “Three Minute Thesis Competition: University of Alabama 2015” documentary on Sunday, March 1, from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. The competition was held in November.

Students have until March 6 to nominate faculty for the Buford Peace Award. More information and nomination form: http://socialwork.ua.edu/spotlight/buford-peace-award-nominees-sought or Liz Dykes at 348-5384 or eadykes@sw.ua.edu.

University Libraries is conducting a survey to better understand the use of academic software for coursework and research. Visit http://bit.ly/ualibsurvey to complete the brief, anonymous survey.

On March 1, the Office of Information Technology will begin prohibiting the use of external Domain Name System services, such as Google Public DNS and OpenDNS, from computers on the UA campus network. The move will affect users on who have manually overridden the default settings to make use of DNS services provided by external organizations. The move will most likely have no effect on users who are not familiar with DNS services, which perform a translation from domain names — for example, abc.com — into Internet Protocol addresses. People using an external DNS service should remove that DNS address from their network connection settings. Doing so will allow their computers to automatically find the UA-provided DNS services.

ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

The College of Human Environmental Sciences is accepting recipes for the second edition of the “Nothing but the Best!” cookbook. This edition will feature child-friendly and healthy options in addition to old classics and new favorites. The deadline to submit recipes is March 15. Send recipes to CHEScookbook@gmail.com. Proceeds will support HES scholarships.
