TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Alabama Program in Sports Communication at The University of Alabama will host Ben May, SEC Network senior director of sports management, as a guest speaker.
May will speak at 5 p.m. Jan. 27 in Ferguson Center, room 3104. The event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Andrew Billings, director of the Alabama Program in Sports Communication, said May will discuss his role within the SEC Network and share with students how core principles of sports management and communication work together in a professional workplace.
“People like Ben May help students – and the public in general – understand that there is so much more to working in sports than just being a sports fan,” Billings said. “His real-world experience will show students how skills from their classes truly have direct applications.”
Billings said May’s visit fits with the APSC’s goal of starting “myriad conversations about and surrounding sport.”
“Sport certainly is a primary theme of campus life at The University of Alabama,” Billings said. “APSC is central to fusing sport within broader conversations, making people understand the impact it has beyond mere wins, losses and championships.”
The APSC is housed in the College of Communication and Information Sciences and comprises faculty fellows from various sport- and communication-related disciplines across campus.
