UA Vedic Society Celebrates Festival of Lights with Music, Dance

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Vedic Society will celebrate Diwali — the festival of lights –with music and dance from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, in 300 Ferguson Center on campus.

“Diwali is celebrated widely across the world, essentially reminding people to move to light from darkness and celebrate the victory of goodness over evil,” said Nagaraj Hegde, president of the UA Vedic Society.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature kirtan dancing to music by the Juggernauts, the Mayapuris, Gaura Vani and Purushartha, as well as free vegetarian food. For more information, go to https://www.facebook.com/events/740802179319501/.

The UA Vedic Society seeks to encourage the student community to appreciate and understand higher dimensions of knowledge as given in the Vedic scriptures and to provide students with opportunities for campus involvement that will bring out their inherent skills. The society organizes yoga and meditation sessions, vegetarian cooking workshops, guest lectures and events throughout the year. The group meets on Thursday evenings in 301 Ferguson Center.
