UA School of Music Hosts Haunting Halloween Performance

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Some songs carry a haunting melody, and the organ studio at The University of Alabama’s School of Music presents a ghostly performance Saturday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Moody Music Concert Hall.

The performance will feature some chilling organ pieces, including the widely recognizable Toccata in D Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach, Danse Macabre transcribed for the organ by Lemare, and an organ duet by Merkle. An original composition from sophomore organ performance major Matthew Edwards is also featured.

The evening will also include comedy acts throughout the program to lighten the mood, with special effects provided by the School of Music’s audio/visual technician, Glenn Sharp.

All proceeds help fund the organ department’s Bach Plus Tour to Germany in April 2015. While there, students will be able to see, hear and play historical organs to help them further understand and appreciate the instrument.

Tickets are $3 for students and children, $5 for seniors, and $10 for adults and can be purchased at the door.

Audience members are encouraged to wear costumes.

The School of Music is a part of the College of Arts and Sciences, the University’s largest division and the largest liberal arts college in the state. Students from the College have won numerous national awards including Rhodes Scholarships, Goldwater Scholarships, Truman Scholarships and memberships on the USA Today Academic All American Team.
