Dance Alabama! is composed entirely of student-choreographed pieces. After a rigorous selection process, approximately 25 pieces are shown in the hour-and-a-half program. Performances include an assortment of dance styles such as jazz, tap, ballet, modern and some mixed media pieces.

UA dance student Mallory Herring’s piece, “Distant Presence,” is about a trip to Ecuador and the use of projections.

“In my work, I am using video elements to portray the pain of leaving, memories of time spent there, and the unknown of the future,” Herring said. After a long process of choreographing and working out technical elements, I cannot wait to share my artistic vision with audiences in DA!”

Tickets for Dance Alabama! are $14 for students, $17 for UA faculty/staff & seniors and $20 for adults. Tickets are available through the department’s website at theatre.ua.edu, the box office at 205/348-3400 or at the door.

UA’s department of theatre and dance is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, the University’s largest division and the largest liberal arts college in the state.
