ANNOUNCEMENTS

Get on Board Day will be held Thursday, Aug. 28, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Seventh Avenue near the Ferguson Center. Setup for the event will begin that day around 2 p.m. Roads in the area will be restricted to facilitate setup. Drivers should exercise patience and caution.

UA will observe Labor Day on Sept. 1. Classes will resume Sept. 2. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is leading the effort to stop drunk driving with its Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign that continues through Sept. 1. State and local law enforcement agencies have announced that they will participate and will be out in full force looking for drunken drivers. Tuscaloosa police officers are conducting patrols throughout the city, with particular focus near the UA campus and surrounding entertainment districts.

JMP Academic Suite, an SAS graphical statistical program that offers exploratory data analysis, is now available. Faculty and students can install and use the program on personal machines for teaching and research purposes only. The University of Alabama requires that every bicycle owned, operated or stored on campus be registered. Registration is available online or people can register by filling out the proper forms at the Transportation Services office located at the Campus Drive Parking Deck at 451 Campus Drive East. Forms are also available at the Student Recreation Center. Bike registration is free. For a complete set of rules and regulations regarding the bike policy, visit http://bamaparking.ua.edu/bicycle. Bama’s Stay on Your Side campaign reminds the UA community to use crosswalks, sidewalks and streets appropriately. As part of the 10th annual College Colors Day celebration, The University of Alabama is participating in the Spirit Cup competition. Prizes include a $10,000 donation toward the general scholarship fund and a chance to win an all-expense paid trip to the College Football Playoff national championship game. The competition is currently ongoing and will end Thursday, Aug. 28. Winners will be announced on College Colors Day, Aug. 29. EVENTS

The Student Government Association is sponsoring a blood drive Wednesday, Aug. 27, and Thursday, Aug. 28, in 300 Ferguson Center. UA’s Blend organization is hosting Blend into the Capstone today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in 3104 Ferguson Center. A panel of student speakers will answer questions about being at the Capstone. Faculty and graduate students are invited to the annual University Libraries Fair, Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2–3:30 p.m., and Thursday, Aug. 28, 10–11:30 a.m., in 205 Gorgas Library. The fair will feature more than a dozen information booths showcasing the many services and resources of University Libraries and campus partners, including the Faculty Resource Center, the Writing Center, and the Center for Academic Success. Librarians will be available to answer questions. Refreshments, door prizes and other giveaways will be offered. The event will also feature breakout sessions demonstrating digital research tools, including Scout, RefWorks, LibGuides, Deep Web searching and the HathiTrust. The Student Government Association and University Programs are offering UA students discounted tickets to the Umphrey’s McGee concert, which will be held Thursday, Aug. 28, at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater. Tickets are $25 after a 25 percent discount, which includes a pit ticket and two concession vouchers. Money raised goes toward the SGA Student Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarship money to students who have monetary emergencies. More information: Mackenzie Brown at media@sga.ua.edu.

ATHLETICS

Alabama’s first home football game of the season will be Sept. 6. Whether you currently have tickets or need tickets, you will want to know how to “Get in the Game,” how the changes to the way student tickets are handled, how to enter the stadium (Gate 30 or Gate 31) and how parking near the stadium affects you. The Alabama weightlifting team is looking for students to compete as members of the team. Positions are also available for students to gain real-world experience in sports management and marketing. More information: public_relations.uawl@alabamaweightliftingteam.com.

The Beat Auburn Beat Hunger team is accepting applications from students to volunteer on the BABH committees that are led by assistant team leaders.
