Zombie Show Produced by UA Students Playing at Bama Theatre

zomcom_16-9_1920x1080_v3TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — All the starlet zombies will be out en force as The University of Alabama’s department of telecommunication and film, along with the Black Warrior Film Festival, rolls out the crimson carpet for the first local screening of “Zom-Com.”

“After practically three semesters of work on this project, it’s thrilling to finally be able to bring it to the big screen at the beautiful Bama Theatre,” said Adam Schwartz, assistant professor of telecommunication and film. “Our students are some of the hardest-working and most talented students around, and I couldn’t be more proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish together.”

The 24-minute pilot will be shown at 4:30 p.m., April 13, at the Bama Theatre in downtown Tuscaloosa. Attendees will have a chance to get their pictures taken with zombies during the pre-screening festivities.

Schwartz said the event will serve as a test screening for the pilot, and attendees will be able to fill out questionnaires letting the filmmakers know what they thought.

“Zom-Com” was filmed as a collaborative project between Schwartz’s TCF 451: Advanced Television Production course and the TCF 444: Zombies in Culture class taught by Dr. Matt Payne, assistant professor in telecommunication and film, during the fall 2013 semester.

The pilot will be entered in various film festivals across the United States in coming months.

The event is free and open to the public and will be followed by a brief Q&A session with Schwartz, Payne, who co-wrote the script and assisted with the production of the pilot, and other cast and crew members.
